Defining the scope of a process

The normative definition (cf. ISO 9000 reference standard) is: "a set of interrelated or interacting activities that uses inputs to produce an expected result". This leaves considerable freedom as to the size of the process, or in other words, the number of activities included in a process.

I suggest you make the most of this freedom, although in practice it's limited by the weight of habit!

In some sectors, the word "process" has a long history. In IT, for example, a process is a succession of elementary tasks ("steps to be followed to obtain a result").

In everyday language, the word "process" can mean "way of proceeding", which brings the word "process" closer to the word "procedure", for example "manufacturing processes".
