Scheduling is usually imposed by the general contractor on its subcontractors, who sign the schedule knowing that they will be late either on their own job, or on jobs that precede it. They know that they can reject the delay and possibly claim compensation for resources held back.

LPS offers a participative approach to scheduling, in which the subcontractor commits to deadlines, resources and links with other tasks on the schedule. The subcontractor commits to a job, while the general contractor steps in to ensure the overall consistency of the schedule.
