1. What does the term “quality culture” mean?
The term “culture” and the phrase “quality culture” are introduced into ISO 9000 through the following definitions.
Culture: shared and embedded values, beliefs, history, ethics, attitudes, and observed behaviors.
Quality culture: a culture that supports the implementation of quality policy and quality objectives, as well as the provision of products and services that meet the needs and expectations of customers and other relevant interested parties.
As indicated in the definition of “culture,” ethics and shared behaviors are among the components to be fostered. It is therefore quite logical that ISO 9001 supplements all instances of “quality culture” with “ethical behavior” (see § 5.1.1, 7.1.4, 7.3, A.5.1, A.5.2), the details of which are provided below.
