5. Prediction of filtration efficiency
Predicting the filtration performance of structured textiles is a complex task. This complexity stems from the multiscale nature of the structure and the wide range of design options available for woven or knitted fabrics (choice of materials; monofilament, multifilament, or fiber-based structures; fiber and yarn diameters; yarn compactness; yarn density, etc.). Three approaches for predicting filtration efficiency are therefore possible: a purely theoretical approach, an empirical approach, or a method that combines theoretical and empirical considerations.
