ABSTRACT
The aim of this article is to provide assistance in the choice of a standard press, its usage and the optimization of the process. The choice can be made on the basis of a competitive fabrication, quality, cost and also the possibility of fabricating a new part. Most often, the technical choices and therefore the cost of the part are defined after its fabrication. In order to make the appropriate choice, the industrial performance and the economic approach must also be taken into consideration. The uses and settings of presses must, on their part, be optimized. The understanding allows for solving quality issues; the identification of causes and resolutions, the setting errors and also the variation in the viscosity of the matter must also be considered.

The main role of a press is to establish a manufacturing process capable of making the most of the mold and the material, i.e. to obtain the part conforming to the required quality level with the shortest possible cycle time.
The first part of the article proposes a method for choosing the right press model for the right application. The second and third parts detail setting up and remedying manufacturing problems and defects.
