2. TG applications
Thermogravimetry can therefore be applied to any type of sample that undergoes a variation in mass over time under the effect of temperature in a given atmosphere. Evaporation, sublimation and oxidation are just some of the transformations detected by thermogravimetry.
Transformations that do not result in a change in mass (such as melting or crystallization, for example) cannot be detected by TG, and will require complementary analysis methods (DTA or DSC, to name but the most common).
