7. Typical experiments
The thermogravimetric method can be used to characterize a wide range of organic and inorganic materials, ceramics and metals, and the type of measurements involved is extremely varied, as the following non-exhaustive list shows:
dehydration and dehydroxylation of inorganic and organic raw materials and products;
pyrolysis and decomposition of polymers, inorganic and organic materials ;
reaction in different reducing atmospheres (hydrogen, CO...);
oxidation, combustion ;
study in corrosive atmospheres ;
study under humid atmosphere (water vapor) ;
analysis of emitted gases using spectrometric (MS, FTIR) and chromatographic methods....
