4. Gaseous fuel system

Gas fuel systems on ships are divided into two main sections: the first takes the gas from the storage tanks to the engine room, and the second conditions the gas for injection into the engine.

The liquid gas transport practiced on LNG carriers has now been extended to other vessels, using smaller tanks. These tanks come in 4 main types: A, B, C and the "membrane" type. They differ in terms of their technology, admissible gas pressure, the presence or absence of jacketing and inert gas around the tanks, and the contribution of the ship's hull to their mechanical strength. They can be prismatic, cylindrical or spherical.
