1. Water circuits

While automotive engines generally have a single water circuit, slow-moving engines have nearly a dozen! Each of these circuits is dedicated to a specific engine function (cooling, heating, water treatment, cleaning) and can be interconnected.

1.1 Cooling

Cooling is necessarily provided by 3 circuits: seawater, low-temperature freshwater and high-temperature freshwater.

  • The seawater circuit provides all engine cooling indirectly, using a range of fluids that are easier to operate. To minimize the maintenance requirements associated with seawater, the circuits are very short and require a minimum of equipment. A typical circuit consists of a seawater intake and shut-off valve, a seawater pump, a centralized seawater/freshwater...
