The asynchronous motor, frequently referred to as an induction motor, comprises :
a polyphase field winding, distributed over a cylindrical armature and traversed by a system of polyphase currents which generate a rotating field;
a second multiphase winding, coaxially positioned so that it is swept by the rotating field, which induces a second system of multiphase currents.

The action of the rotating field in the field on the induced currents (which in turn create a secondary rotating field with the same angular velocity as the field in the field) produces an electromagnetic torque whose mean value is not, as a rule, zero.
