Electrical networks and installations are subject to incidents of a random nature, the most frequent of which are short circuits, and more particularly short circuits between phase and earth [29] . The repercussions of these incidents on service continuity and equipment operation depend on the nature of the faults, their location and the protective measures implemented to eliminate them.

In an industrial installation, when, for example, a component (cable, motor, transformer, etc.) breaks down, the following can be observed:

• if protection is provided by the incoming circuit breaker alone, tripping of the entire installation;
