6. Devices that generate a static or alternating magnetic field
MRI allows for the highly precise examination of many organs by producing cross-sectional images from various angles and reconstructing the analyzed structure in three dimensions. This technique produced its first images in the 1970s. It developed significantly starting in the 1980s, and advances made in the 1990s—along with the development of functional MRI—made it possible to measure activity in different areas of the brain.
The machine consists of a cylinder in which an intense magnetic field is generated; the examination table, on which the patient lies, is placed inside this cylinder.
