Overview

ABSTRACT

Boolean algebra is a mathematical structure related to the usage of propositions and logical variables through equations. The TRUE and FALSE statements are represented by binary values and the terms AND and OR have become mutiplication and addition operators. Boolealn algebra is at the core of mathematical logic, the set theory and the information theory. It is used both in mathematics and physics and is also at the basis of IT. Its applications are numerous, notably in electronics and telecommunications

 INTRODUCTION

George Boole's book An Investigation of the Laws of Thought sets out the rules of what is known as Boolean algebra. Since 1854, the subject has found important applications, first in mathematics, then in physics, computing and telecommunications. Boolean algebra is now part of the theoretical foundations of all these disciplines. The massive evaluation of Boolean formulas, billions of times every nanosecond, by microchips, is one of the keys to our brave new digital century. Automatic verification of massive Boolean formulas (millions of gates) is another key to the reliable design of various critical digital systems.
