6. Rupture cascades – Statistical approach

In this section, we present the results, sometimes intermediate, of work carried out using a so-called "statistical" approach to the atomization process. Indeed, without seeking to reveal the exact nature of fracture processes, various authors have assumed that fractures occur and that, depending on the assumptions applied to fracture properties (rarity, frequency, scale dependence, etc.), it is possible to arrive at a "most probable" distribution law. The resulting distributions may be different in nature, without the pattern, and hence the comparison with experimental results, necessarily being very different. All the more so as one or more control parameters in the statistics necessarily appear and can, in the absence by definition of any link with the physical parameters, be adjusted practically freely to represent the observations.
