4. Combustion chemistry

4.1 Hydrogen

Hydrogen is the simplest fuel. Its combustion has been extensively studied due to its simplicity and the dominance of its reactions in the combustion kinetics of all other hydrocarbons, for which it is an intermediate or combustion product.

Numerous kinetic models have been proposed for hydrogen. They differ mainly in the rate constants associated with the various chemical reactions. Indeed, the commonly used reaction scheme for hydrogen combustion involves nineteen reactions involving eight species. Additional reactions, whose contribution to combustion kinetics is minimal, can also be added. The kinetic model proposed by the Combustion Chemistry Center at the University of Galway
