2. Electron interaction

Electrons give up their energy by ionizing the atoms of the medium they pass through, but also by emitting electromagnetic braking radiation whenever they are deflected from their trajectories. The latter is characteristic of the electron's low mass, as other particles lose energy through braking radiation at much higher energies, with the effective cross-section of braking radiation varying in : (1Mc2)2
