1. Particularities of the notion of traceability in service activities

To begin with, we feel it's necessary to review the concept of traceability and show how we believe it goes beyond the functionalities of a traceability system used in quality processes.

We will then study the main characteristics of service activities in order to understand what a traceability system can mean in such a context: what form does it take? What is the interest in developing traceability systems in service activities?

1.1 The concept of traceability in industrial and commercial organizations

In the context of quality management, traceability is defined by ISO 8402 (1995 version) as "the ability to trace the history, use or location of an entity by means of recorded identifications"....
