4. Process analysis tools

With the foundations and preliminaries to process reengineering in place, let's get to the heart of this article's subject: reengineering through graphics.

This is nothing new. Numerous IT tools (see § 3.2) were created in the late 1980s and early 1990s. However, non-computer "users" have encountered difficulties in using them: difficulties of comprehension due to inadequate training, and difficulties in working in groups around a computer screen or even a projection screen. What's more, these computerized description tools have to be virtually exhaustive, which makes it hard to stand back and take stock!
