Activity is the art, action and manner of transforming products (physical or informational) from one state into another. In principle, activity adds value to the original product.

The activity is defined by a verb and a complement. For example: pack a finished product, give a course on processes, issue an invoice...

The company is a jigsaw puzzle of activities that, from raw materials, gives rise to the finished product demanded by the customer.

As the finished product responds to "service functions" (value analysis, functional specifications: NF X50-151 standard), the activities represent "technical functions" defined by the designer.
