1.1 Statistical data

Road haulage companies correspond to codes 602L (local road haulage) and 602M (intercity road haulage) of the French Nomenclature d'activité française (NAF), with 602N identifying removal companies. The statistical distinction between local and intercity transport is similar to, but does not correspond exactly to, the distinction between short-haul and long-haul transport.

The main figures available are taken from the Annual Business Survey for 2003 (table 1 ).
