7. Conclusion

As we have emphasized in this article, the evolution of the engineering IT environment is not the result of a fad, a race for the latest available technology, or the vision of software publishers out of touch with the world of industry, and particularly that of engineering.

On the contrary, this evolution is designed to meet the needs of operators –, who are increasingly demanding in terms of CAPEX and OPEX optimization –, as well as those of engineers in their quest for efficiency and control of exchange networks.

Project studies are now often carried out by numerous entities spread across the globe, working 24/7 –, making it essential to use reliable, user-friendly, secure and optimally located IT structures to serve all stakeholders. The Cloud is a technological response that will continue to develop in the years to come.
