2. Work analysis as a REX tool for design – The case of sorting industries

To provide feedback to the design team, we conducted a parallel project:

  • an analysis of design activity, to identify how health and safety criteria were taken into account in current processes;

  • and an analysis of sorting activities at two household waste sorting centers.

2.1 Analysis of design activities – Contribution of knowledge of real work

This analysis enabled us to understand, on the one hand, the contributions of standards and the legislative framework in terms of prevention, and the concerns of designers, and on the other hand, the limits or shortcomings for the appropriate integration of health and safety criteria.
