4. Benefits and constraints of reconfigurable systems

4.1 Contributions

Like the transition from wired to programmed solutions for control devices, reconfigurable systems offer a range of possibilities for breaking free from the straitjacket imposed by a conventional, fixed system.

Taking reconfigurability into account right from the design stage increases the positivism of the driving process.

Such a system enables the field manager to seek a rational solution to any unforeseen event. Armed with knowledge of the system's potential and levers, he or she is in a position to propose coherent solutions, disrupting the overall organization as little as possible.
