3. Areas of use

The schematization process is universal. Schematics can be found in a wide variety of fields. Schematics are distinguished according to their intended use. The most common types of schematic are as follows.

3.1 Schematic diagram

Also known as an explanatory diagram, it shows the main components and important connections. It's a first approach that limits itself to the essentials. When it is intended to explain how a system works, it is called a "functional diagram". The presentation may comprise several diagrams of increasing complexity.
