4. Major structural configurations

The grouping of activities leads to an organization chart, which may or may not be explicit, defining the company's main departments, operational or support functions. The structure of these major functions may vary, but there are some typical configurations.

  • Entrepreneurial

    This type of company can be found in start-up or recent companies, directly controlled by the manager with a small team, or in the subsidiary of a major corporation.

    The management style is very organic, with an omniscient top manager. However, there are two potential dysfunctional factors:

    • a company's survival is closely linked to its manager;

    • the focus on operations leaves little time for development...
