5. Wrap around case packers

From 1915-1980, with the development of soft drinks and the need to increase production speeds and hot melt adhesives, this new technique, enabling very high speeds, was developed.

This involves wrapping (to wrap) a group of 6, 12 or 24 bottles, flasks or metal cans with a cardboard blank or sheet delivered flat, the flaps of which are immediately glued with a very fast-setting hot-melt adhesive (maximum 1 to 2 s) (figures and ).

In this case, the bottles or other individual containers need to "cooperate" with the cardboard, as the flaps of the cardboard do not completely close the overpack; the cardboard is in intimate contact with the containers, which must therefore contribute their own mechanical strength to the solidity of the whole.
