4. Important variant in the injection process

4.1 Ionized air rinser

The water consumption of a rinser, even one with pulsed injections, is high (90 to 130 mL per bottle, depending on volume). For rinsing new non-refillable PET containers, manufacturers such as KHS have developed an ionized air rinse which neutralizes the electrical charge on the inner walls of plastic containers, which are particularly electrostatic and thus retain a good number of solid particles, which are blown away without rinsing.

Sterile air filtered at 0.2 μm is used for ionized air rinsing, and air consumption varies from 5 to 8 L per cylinder (figure 12 ).
