3. Adhesive tapes and labels

3.1 Composition of a ribbon

Adhesive tape is a backing material coated on one side with a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer, i.e. one that can be attached to a surface by simple pressure.

An adhesive tape is essentially made up of four elements: a backing, an adhesive mass, an anchoring layer and a release layer (figure 27 ).
