2. Legal framework

French ecodesign regulations are set out in the Code de l'environnement, which covers all French laws, decrees and orders concerning the environment, including those relating to waste, and especially packaging waste.

• Environmental Code rules on packaging waste:

  • articles L541-1 et seq. containing the legislative provisions (L = law) relating to the prevention and management of waste produced by households and professional activities;

  • articles D541-330 et seq. containing the provisions laid down by decree (D = simple decree) for the banning of certain single-use plastic products (including plastic packaging other than plastic bags);
