3. Packaging subject to ecodesign
Ecodesign is a legal obligation that comes into play at the beginning of the packaging life cycle, with the aim of preparing for the end of the packaging's life when it becomes waste.

Start of life cycle
As soon as an article meets the definition of packaging or packaging component explained below, it must be eco-designed in accordance with the environmental requirements set out in chapter 5, whatever the packaging waste: whether it is used and then discarded by industry, commerce, offices, administrations or households, and whatever the materials of which it is made (Dir. 94/62, art. 2).
