Organization of the profession
Packers have a long history in France.
In 1521, under the reign of François 1 er , the statutes governing the profession are mentioned, under the terms "layetier écrinier" and then "layetier emballeur" (the term "layette" was used to designate boxes incorporating trays for storing linen).
