The human and economic impact of workplace accidents and occupational illnesses is considerable. The French Association of Maintenance Engineers and Managers (AFIM), citing data from the CNAMTS (Caisse nationale d'assurance maladie des travailleurs salariés), counted, for example, for 2017 :
