5. Specific tools

The aim of this part of the study is to develop a new range of cutting tools for multi-material drilling. Our starting point is defined by a reference tool initially dedicated to drilling CFRP-type composite plates, marketed by STOC Production to Airbus. We need to propose modifications to ensure the drilling of CFRP/Al multi-materials.

Our strategy is to introduce modifications to the reference tool tip to reduce thrust forces and fractionate the metal chip, while ensuring low average roughness in aluminum ( Ra1μm ) and composite ( Ra3μm...
