5. Conclusion

Plastic injection molding machines have undergone continuous development in terms of connectivity and energy optimization, in line with the evolution of available manufacturing techniques and the development of measuring devices enabling closed-loop control and modification of process parameters on a continuous basis. The massive processing of process and product data (artificial intelligence concept) will drastically reduce machine set-up times to obtain a stabilized injection cycle and an injected part in line with specifications.

The increasing use of recycled polymer materials (RPMs) with less well-defined rheological characteristics than virgin polymer materials calls for the use of closed-loop control devices that adapt plasticizing and injection parameters to on-line pressure and temperature measurements.
