4. Conclusion

Ionizing radiation treatment is increasingly used to modify polymer materials.

What's more, the practical aspects of – radiotreatment on both small and large production runs – enable the technology to be applied to voluminous products, even in bulk, or to molded parts, whereas until the early 1990s it was limited to products presented in length in the cable, tube, sheath or fabric sectors.

Radiocrosslinking of polymers thus leads to materials with improved chemical, mechanical and thermal properties, without dimensional variations. What's more, these properties increase with dose (particularly in the case of thermal properties). Radio-cross-linked plastics are therefore an innovative material solution, offering numerous advantages in terms of both technical performance and economics.
