Growth prospects for PAEKs are very favorable, at 15% per year. But given the price and the relatively low tonnages, this will remain a specialty market for a long time to come.
This is the sad end of PK polyketones (polyketones), which were hailed in the early 1990s as a major breakthrough with incredible potential and an excellent price/performance ratio.
These polyketones were produced from low-cost materials, carbon monoxide and olefins. They could be used as packaging barriers, in many engineering plastics applications, as molded or extruded parts, thermoplastic fibers, adhesives and coatings. Aliphatic polyketones were hailed as offering a more attractive combination of physical properties than polyamides and polyacetals.
