5. Calendering
Calendering is used to manufacture films and sheets of thermoplastic or rubber, and to coat films or fabrics with one or more layers (both sides) of plastic or rubber.
The plastic material is deposited in the convergence zone between two rolls driven in opposite directions, then laminated by one or more passes between rolls driven in opposite directions. The films or sheets obtained at the calender outlet can be stretched to reach the desired thickness and printed by pressing against a graining cylinder. Finally, the edges are trimmed and the web can be divided and wound up to form one or more reels.
