2. VSEs and sustainable development

Like the vast majority of plastics, thermoplastic elastomers have traditionally been formulated and manufactured from fossil raw materials. However, current market trends are driving sustainable development programs that obviously apply to VSEs.

In short, sustainable development can be broadly defined as the obligation to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

For VSEs, the problem is to offer designers elastic or flexible products that are easy to use, perform well and lead to competitive solutions. In addition to the use of renewable products, solutions include recycling, reuse, environmentally-friendly formulation and efficient use of resources, particularly energy.
