ABSTRACT

Project risk management can be understood through a set of formalized methods. The paper addresses more particularly the role of agile methods in risk project mitigation. With the help of feedback but also concrete situations observed in organizations, this paper offers an illustrated vision of the implementation of agile methods within the framework of software projects.

 INTRODUCTION

The Agile method is a cross-functional project management method particularly applicable to the management of software development projects and their evolutionary maintenance. The Agile method, which can be understood as a set of methods allowing for flexibility in the development of software projects, not only helps to reduce risks, but also enhances the performance of projects, whether they are complex or intended to be carried out within a limited timeframe and under resource constraints.

The concept of the Agile method is not a new one, dating back to the 1990s in particular, but its use has grown in many organizations as part of a trend towards greater efficiency in the face of the increasing number of projects and the growing complexity of organizations.

The challenge of agile methods is to find a compromise between performance and risk control, in a context where organizations must not only maintain numerous and increasingly complex information systems, but also design new applications in line with new information and communication technologies (projects to integrate artificial intelligence software, projects to migrate information systems from in-house hosting mode to Software as a Service-type applications, projects to migrate information systems to more high-performance solutions, projects to reduce specific developments to more standard software).

The article uses examples, case studies and media reports to illustrate the benefits of using Agile methods to integrate projects in different sectors, particularly industry. We focus on software development projects, as these are particularly well suited to the Agile method.
