5. Reducing the vulnerability of structures to explosions

5.1 General recommendations

Feedback on the effects of explosions shows that some structures not initially designed as blast-resistant perform significantly better than others. For structures that are not considered to be very critical from a safety point of view, it is not feasible to carry out a detailed analysis by calculation of the entire structure, as this would not be economically acceptable. Similarly, when assessing the vulnerability of existing structures, it may be useful to identify, as a first analysis, the important factors that will allow the structure to have or not have a good a priori behavior to explosion.
