3. Adapting reliability

Irrespective of the critical aspects addressed by FMECAs, programmed systems can also be the source of failures that can impair system availability. To estimate these risks, reliability information is needed. The techniques used to assess software reliability, although inspired by those used for hardware components, have had to be specially adapted to the particular case of computing [SE 2 520] . This is the subject of the present chapter.
