8. Conclusion

In the field of scientific and technical systems, IT safety is mainly addressed through risk analysis and the implementation of development processes imposed by functional safety standards to produce software with the right level of operating safety. The alternative, specific to the IT world, is to use formal methods which guarantee that the software has the expected safety properties.

When software is not associated with feared events, but must contribute to equipment availability, reliability techniques apply.
