8. Conclusion

Used by 11 million people in France, LPG and liquid gases in the broadest sense are a major source of energy for transportation, heating, and cooking. The transport of LPG is an essential step between its extraction or production and the end customer. Despite a few accidents—since there is no such thing as zero risk—it can be considered safe, particularly because it is strictly regulated by hazardous materials transport regulations and carried out by highly experienced operators.

Given the constraints mentioned, particularly the rural nature of the customer base, road transport of LPG is the dominant mode of transport, and it will be difficult to do otherwise, despite the associated challenges and likely cost increases. However, regulatory changes are paving the way for a move toward truly optimizing LPG transport.
