3. Implantable glucose biosensors

A model sensor

Almost 90% of research activity in enzymatic biosensors concerns glucose detection. The development of glucose biosensors has a direct application in the monitoring of blood glucose levels in diabetic patients, which represents a considerable market. The abundance of literature on glucose biosensors is also explained by their status as "model" sensors, which they have acquired since the work of Leland Clark. As a result, most of the innovations in the field of biosensors have been developed on the glucose biosensor.
