composting :

A set of treatments performed on biomass waste designed to stimulate aerobic microbial activity in order, on the one hand, to degrade the waste's easily biodegradable organic compounds into CO 2 + H 2 O, and, on the other, to transform the more recalcitrant matter into a humus-like form that can be valorized in agronomy. Composting combines aerobic biological treatments (hot fermentation and maturation) and mechanical operations (sorting, grinding, sieving, etc.) adapted to the characteristics of the waste and the quality objectives targeted for the compost).
