5. Conclusion - Outlook
In June 2022, Members of the European Parliament voted to end the sale of combustion-powered vehicles from 2035, and only electric vehicles will be allowed on the European market. This ban is a real revolution for carmakers, who are now refocusing their investments on pure electric and fuel cell vehicles.
The GENEPAC proton exchange membrane fuel cell was developed in the 2000s to meet the specific requirements of the automotive industry, with a technology that has continued to improve year after year. It is the fruit of a partnership between PSA Peugeot Citroën (Stellantis) and the Commissariat à l'énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives (CEA) over more than 7 years to set up the design rules and culminate today in the marketing of the first vehicles benefiting from both this feedback and subsequent technological advances.
