5. Natural coatings
The process of surface coating with surface treatment products is often employed, and involves coating the metal with a thin layer that spreads over its surface. This results in materials that develop properties advantageous to their field of use: resistance to heat, wear, corrosion, oxidation, friction, etc.
When it comes to protecting metals, modifying the metal-solution interface by applying a protective coating, whether organic or inorganic, has often been, and still is, the preferred solution for many applications. The choice of protective material depends on its physicochemical properties, and above all on its resistance to corrosion. Adhesion, uniformity, thickness and, depending on the case, porosity are the most important characteristics of a metallic coating.
