3. Single-zone combustion models
Compared with phenomenological models, the aim of single-zone combustion models is to provide a physics-based approach to predicting output quantities (cylinder pressure P cyl , heat release rate dQ c /dt...) when input parameters vary (supercharging, exhaust gas recirculation, injection timing, injection duration, engine speed...).
One-zone models are also known as 0D or zero-dimensional models, because they take into account temporal variations in variables, but assume that all intensive quantities (pressure, temperature, concentrations) are uniform throughout the volume of the combustion chamber.
