 INTRODUCTION

The file on the phenomenology of heat transfer in internal combustion engines needed to be complemented by numerical techniques capable of designing a model to predict the overall thermal behaviour of the engine subjected to external action (torque and displacement speed). Indeed, the development of control strategies, the preventive detection of possible overheating during a particular mission profile and fuel consumption mean that the numerical behavior model is becoming an essential part of the development of modern engines and powertrains in general. Engine cooling parameters have a significant impact on these factors, particularly during cold start-up phases. The notion of pollution, not dealt with here, is naturally a function of the same criteria. This approach will be subdivided into three files dealing with the construction and validation of a numerical tool for simulating the transient thermal behavior of an internal combustion engine, here applied to a direct injection diesel engine. We'll be looking in turn at the creation of a general numerical tool to manage heat transfers and fluid circulation other than combustion. , combustion and overall validation of the proposed model .

After briefly situating the problem of numerical simulation within the engineering process, the construction of the recommended tool will be described, in particular the first module describing the entire model of the engine architecture, cooling and lubrication systems. Each stage in the model's construction will be illustrated by views detailing both the discretization of the system and the correlations used to describe energy exchange or flow generation phenomena. To this end, the scientific analysis developed in the will serve as a reference.
