2. Use of computer simulations

Modelling based on the nodal concept of the DW10ATED diesel engine involves two parts. The first describes the thermal behavior of the engine architecture and its cooling and lubrication systems. . It includes the calculation of hydraulic aspects related to the powertrain's thermal cooling system (GMP). The second simulates combustion and calculates piston/ring/cylinder friction flows.

In order to exploit the proposed numerical approach, it is necessary to compare the numerical results with experimental data. Given the complexity of the simulation tool, the comparison with experiment is divided into three stages. The first involves validating the results of the hydraulic model of the cooling circuit. The second is to validate the combustion model, and the third is to examine the transient and established thermal aspects of the GMP, so as to correlate...
